I'm particularly interested in placozoan genetics. For my PhD I want to study placozoan population genetics to better understand the effects of anthropogenic changes within marine ecosystems. In my master's thesis I studied the myosin repertoire in placozoans and compared it to that of other model organisms.

Besides my work with placozoans I play drums for "The Hirsch Effekt".

Julia Marie Glebe

Julia was born on 24th September, 1991 and raised in Hannover. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2014 from the Leibniz University Hannover, she enrolled in the program ‘Animal Biology and Biomedical Sciences’ at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover. During severaI study courses at the ITZ in the Schierwater lab, Julia became particularly interested in developmental genetics and phylogenomics in early metazoans. Her first project is about the functional role and phylogenomic implications of Pax genes in Placozoa. Enjoying travelling and being interested in invertebrate research, she took the chance to participate in international study courses at the ‘Station biologique de Roscoff’ in France and at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Other than that, she enjoys the outdoors - particularly diving and sailing.

Main fields of work/interest

- Identification of soil animals on species level (Collembola, Oribatida, Staphylinidae) for companies, universities and national parks including the making of permanent slide preparation.

- Writing of scientific reports and articles about soil animals including statistical analysis.

- Excursions to get knowledge about insects and other animals in forests and meadows (mainly for groups of students).

- Cooperation within ecological projects sponsored by different institutions with the focus on the identification of the soil fauna (e.g the project “EDAPHOBASE” sponsored by the BMBF).
